PD Dr. Simon Lebek studied Medicine in Regensburg, where he received the habilitation in Experimental Internal Medicine. Thereafter, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Eric Olson at the UTSW Medical Center in Dallas (USA) to study CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing as a therapeutic strategy for common cardiovascular disorders. In 2023, Simon Lebek was admitted to the DFG Heisenberg Programme, which enabled him to launch an independent laboratory in Regensburg.
